Change in life in inevitable...think about it! Everyday there is new technology that replaces the old, making your year old computer or cell phone obsolete. And think about what life was like even a decade ago...did you really believe that cell phones were the up and coming, let alone the fact that it could perform functions like downloading music, taking pictures, or surfing the internet? Speaking of the internet, that is an entity that changes daily! Every time I learn something new there are a dozen more things that have been posted or invented that make my knowledge obsolete!
The point is, the more that we look around, the more change we can see happening all around us. So why are we running around with the same boring ideas waiting for a different result. I heard it said that in the next few years what you know will not be as important as how much you are adaptable to change. That means that the big money earners will not be the ones with the perfect grade point college averages, it will be those who are willing to think outside the box and adapt to world markets and changing ideas. So which direction will life take for you?
If you are reading this right now, take a moment and do a little experiment for me. Take your arms and cross them-simple right? Now see how your arms curve over each other. Which arm is on the top? Now switch your arms so that your dominant arm is on the bottom. Now, how does this make you feel? Pretty uncomfortable, right? The first time I did this, my arms went around in a loop a couple of times before I could even get the non-dominant hand on the top!
What does this have to do with change? Albert Einstein said, "Problems cannot be solved with the same amount of thinking that we were at when we created them". If we have things in our life that are out of balance, or we are in a rut and have no way of figuring out how to get the things in life that we want, it is because we need to adjust our thinking. We can't keep doing the same things over and over and hope for a different result: that's call INSANITY! WE have to get comfortable with the idea of change. Going back to the arm exercise, if I were to tell you that if you kept practicing crossing your arms to the comfortable/uncomfortable positions, over and over, eventually you can go to a party and cross your arms and you would be comfortable with either arm on the top, would you believe me? But it is the truth. The same can be said for change. The trick is to realize that as long as we keep doing the same "uncomfortable" habits over and over, it will change and become something that is permanent and lasting in our brain. We won;t have to think about it anymore, because it will be so hardwired into our long term memory it will actually feel "uncomfortable" when we DON'T do it!
So, if you are ready for a big change, whether it be having a happier outlook on life, wanting to lose weight, or even become Financially Independent - do the following things. First, write down all the excuses you have given yourself for failing in the past, and then in another column give yourself all the reasons WHY you deserve a better life. Keep this piece of paper with you as you start on your difficult journey, and refer to it often when it becomes difficult and "uncomfortable". When your WHYS are powerful the HOWS get easier. Then set time aside and set up a meeting with yourself at least once a month (I do it once a week). Be honest and hold nothing back. Keep a journal of your meeting, so you can look back and reevaluate yourself. Write down what happened, how close you came to your goal, if you accomplished your goal, and what you are going to do next. Another great thing you can do is get involved in the world of personal development. Listen to talk tapes, read powerful books, read articles on the internet, subscribe to magazines that will inspire and motivate you, because let's face it, it is nearly impossible to do it all on your own. There are going to be days when you want to sit on the couch and eat ice cream and not work out. Having another person tell you how much you deserve to achieve everything you want in life is the best thing you can invest in. After all, you're the most important thing you have in life!! You do deserve it!
